Commerce Queensland member update

Queensland Business Energy Users Alliance

Recent changes to state and Commonwealth regulations means that a large proportion of businesses will be required to report on their carbon footprint (greenhouse emissions and/or energy usage). A number of Queensland Government departments are also 'dangling' incentives in the form of financial assistance to encourage the implementation of energy efficiency projects. This means there is no better time to arm yourself with information about your energy use, government regulations and assistance that may be available.

As you would be aware, energy use is a significant cost to your business and it is increasing every year. Recent surveys by Commerce Queensland and others have identified that businesses are keen to reduce their energy use and learn about what needs to be done. Understandably, most have little idea about how to approach the challenge.

A new member alliance

Because of this, Commerce Queensland is forming an Energy Users Alliance (EUA) along the same lines as the Commerce Queensland Water Users Alliance, which has well served some 400 South East Queensland members facing challenges as a result of Queensland Water Commission water restrictions. This new member Alliance will exist to provide businesses with practical information on:

  • How to reduce energy consumption
  • Government regulation updates (including carbon accounting and emissions trading)
  • Funding and rebate programs offered by all levels of government and other third-parties
  • Information on electricity tariffs and contestable contracting

We invite you to become part of the new Alliance. Commerce Queensland's experienced Business Efficiency team will keep Alliance members informed through periodic emails about the latest changes in what is being termed the 'carbon economy'.

An extra incentive to join

To mark the launch of this free member service, we are offering you the chance to win one of three energy meters. The energy meters provide details of appliances energy consumption and can be used in most offices or workplaces. To go into the draw to win an energy meter, register your interest in the Energy Users Alliance by 31 March 2008. Winners will be notified by phone or email on Wednesday 2 April.

Remember, substantial savings can be realised by being more energy efficient and this will also reduce your carbon footprint.
